Goldfoot Genealogy

Kits have been sent out from Family Tree DNA to two male Goldfoots to see if they are related. Hopefully this will connect the South African line with the North American line.

David Hirschman, whose mother was Stanley Goldfoot's eldest sister Kathleen, sends me his information. His tree begins with Avrohom Goldfuss b: abt 1825 in Vilna, Lithuania/Russia. He had 5 known children who produced 23 offspring. He thinks that it's possible that my grandfather Nathan could have been one of Avrohom's brother's sons. But there may have been other brothers or cousins who left Russia at that time.
He said that his mother Kathleen had a lot of Goldfoot information and he had learned as much as possible. Family oral history is that Goldfoots are related to the Vilna Ga'on somehow.

This is very exciting information in that my my grandparents had a son named Abraham. This is a connection to a deceased Abraham in the family, and it could be the above mentioned Avrohom Goldfuss. These offspring had also gone to England, establing the English, Irish and South African Goldfoots. David sent a wonderful tree which contains many of the names I have discovered and that are on this blog.

Rachel Clare Goldfoot was born 4 February 1906. She died in October 1986 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. This was also found on the England & Wales Index listing deaths.

Abraham Jacob Goldfoot was born in 1897 in Prestwich, Lancashire. He was on the England & Wales Listing. He was born 3 years after Hayman Joseph Goldfoot in the same place. Perhaps they were from the same family.

In Prestwich, Lancashire was born Hayman Joseph Goldfoot on June 1894. He died on June 1894 in Cockermouth, Cumbria, Cumberland. His parents were not given.

In the phone directory of 1917 was listed Dr. Goldfoot, Physician and Surgeon in London. His address was Brondesbury Rd N.W, and phone? was Willesden 598. To be a doctor I would presume that he was born before 1900, most likely in the 1890's. His first name was not given, but many Goldfoots have been doctors.

Lottie Goldfoot was born in September 1870 in New York. On the 1900 census of Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa on 6th street she was found at age 29 and single, working as a servant. She said her parents were also born in New York. That means that her parents were born in New York in the years abt 1850, which was very early for Goldfoots from eastern Europe.

Aron Goldfoot was found arriving on the ship SS New York, an American Line ship, on August 18, 1906. She was 36 years old and traveling alone. She was born in 1870, just a few years older than my grandfather Nathan Goldfoot.. This was found on the New York passenger list. 1906 was when my grandfather married in Council, Idaho.

I believe my Aunt Anne Oster nee Goldfoot procured this tree somehow, or it was also given to me by my brother David. I will change it from the box style to a numbered style, hopefully. I just noticed I posted this in a written form on August 23, 2004, so please look at archives. It says it was from my brother David who got it from a Goldfoot in England.

On the back of the tree page I had written:
Nathan Goldfoot (my grandfather) had a brother Abrum (Abraham) who went to England while Nathan went to the United States. This may have been a guess, I'm not sure of the source of this information.

12/3/06 Denise Goldfoot Bremridge of South Africa explained that Chaim and Blume Goldfoot settled in Dublin at the end of the 1800's. Louis Goldfoot was their 2nd eldest son and his children were Norman and Tanya.

Could this Chaim and wife Blume be the cousin of my grandfather Chaim Itzak? Denise writes "that she can only imagine that her grandfather Chaim left the Ukraine with his wife Blume (Blanche) and their first child Nadia at about the same time as my grandfather Nathan left. They could even have been on the same boat and got off in England together. Chaim and family went to Dublin where I believe there were already members of his family. " The fact that one "cousin" had a child named Nadia and the other "cousin" was Nathan is also interesting. My grandfather Nathan chose to go alone to the USA.

On November 28, 2006, Ian Goldfoot of Texas saw this blog and contacted me. His sister Denise then contacted me on December 2, 2006 and gave me information. She put me in contact with her cousin Vyvyan Myerson who is the Goldfoot family genealogistand is in South Africa. and I contacted him on December 3, 2006. Hopefully I will receive more Goldfoot information to connect the two branches of Goldfoots. The connection must lie with my ggrandfather Chaim Itzak Goldfoot.
